Bacon & Thyme
A place for aspiring cooks of all levels.
We need to talk about Dan…
Dan Surtees is a Chef turned cooking tutor and writer with over 20 years experience in the catering and hospitality trade.
Starting work at 14 as a kitchen porter he proceeded to graduate culinary school and went on to work in event catering and in restaurants around Sussex learning his trade.
At 27 he took a break from work to fulfil a life long dream of travelling to Madagascar to join a conservation project focusing on endemic species. Living in a beach camp, cooking over a camp fire and studying lemurs.
After returning to England he moved to London where he worked as a Head chef for the Metropolitan Pub Company at The Black Lion, West Hampstead. The Salt House, St John’s Wood and The Bald Faced Stag, East Finchley.
More recently Dan spent 3 years living and working in Goa, India where he had a bar/restaurant and boutique beach resort in the beautiful beach village of Agonda.
Now back home in West Sussex, Dan has started Bacon & Thyme to pass on his skills and knowledge and hopes to found a cooking school in the area soon.
Other than food his loves are music, Man Utd, his Vespa - Belle, travelling and Star Wars.
